We started the day off by taking the typical tourist photo with the red phone booths. We then walked to the tube and headed to St. John’s Wood station. The tube was so incredibly clean and nothing like the subways of Manhattan! When we arrived at St. John’s Wood station, we walked out to see Abbey Road Studios. Any Beatles fans can enjoy a few photos from inside including the Yesterday Score by Sir George Martin. We also took a look inside the Beatles Store and Sherlock Holmes Museum later that day.
One of my favorite stops in London was the Portobello Market. The pastel-colored houses reminded me of Charleston and the streets were lined for miles with flowers, produce and flea market finds. If my suitcase wasn’t already one pound from the max limit, I would have bought so many things. I definitely think this is a must-see when you are visiting. The Portobello market is open from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Saturday.
In the late afternoon, we took a boat cruise on the Thames River to get a view of some of central London’s most iconic landmarks, including the London Eye and Tower Bridge. You’ll see my husband holding the London Eye with his wrapped hand. He had surgery a few weeks before our trip, and thank God, his hand was healing properly, but if you are wondering why his hand is wrapped, that is why. You’ll also the famous Big Ben, however, it was undergoing a little facelift when we were visiting! We finished the day with dinner at one of the local restaurants that overlooked the Thames. It was such a fun day exploring the city.
