Rich + Gina’s lakeside wedding was nothing short of incredible! They chose the gorgeous Rock Island Lake Club for their wedding ceremony and reception. Their wedding was held on a Thursday, and I have to say that Thursday’s are my new favorite wedding day! This adorable couple exchanged vows down by the lake surrounded by their closest family and friends. A little bit of rain and a whole lot of fog, did not put a damper on this day. The bride and groom were so fun to photograph and even jumped in a row boat for some photos! Below are a few from their big day!

Read below to hear more about their story as well as how Rich proposed!

How did you meet?
I think it’s more important to think about “when” we met than where we met. We were both interested in other people when we met but we became friends fast. We spoke about every day through texting, instant messaging, and myspace. About 6-7 months after we met, Rich was there for me and I was there for him through a lot of dark times and difficult transitions my first year of highschool. I definitely now believe that in order to find the person you’re supposed to be with, you have to be open minded to it and you have to give up on chasing or forcing relationships. Once I gave up on trying to find the “perfect” boyfriend, my eyes were opened to who was right there in front of me the entire time. The less romantic version of this story is Rich and I meeting through mutual friends after a movie on a Summer afternoon at a sporting goods store. He was interested in my friend, and I was then dating someone else. I clearly remember the day I met Rich and we still go to the same sporting goods store and “Revisit” the exact location where we first met. I also still have the movie stub from a movie I saw that day with the friend who introduced us that day!

How did your husband propose?

Rich proposed to me in front of the Christmas Tree at the Rockefeller Center. The morning of, Rich woke me up before going to work (I was currently in grad school but was on winter break) and told me to get up and go upstairs. When I got into my room I saw that he has scattered pictures of us from throughout the years on my floor along with song lyrics to our favorite songs. Music and lyrics have always been important to our relationship, so it was only natural that it was also a part of the proposal. Rich told me he was taking me into the city for the day but I still wasn’t aware of what was going to happen. He distracted me awhile before bringing me to the tree. After he dropped to one knee and proposed I noticed that many of our close friends had made the trip to the city to celebrate in our moment. It was definitely an amazing day and I was glad to share it with my close friends!

What did you like most about your venue?

I loved everything about our venue, but we definitely found that the combination of the staff and their attention to detail and making sure that we had everything we needed was so amazing. We didn’t have to stress at all about anything on the days leading up to the wedding or on our wedding day. The staff handled every little detail and made sure everything ran smoothly. The staff went above and beyond to make sure that everything was done correctly, and they fulfilled any request we made. We would get married all over again, the day went by so quickly and was so beautiful and everything we could have possibly imagined and more.

The grounds of the venue are also so amazing and unique which is what originally drew us to the venue. We love the outdoor space and the ceremony space. We also love that it combines rustic elegance and nature, which is so important to the both of us. We feel like the venue captured our love for entertaining as a couple but in a space that is not too traditional but not too trendy!

What was the most fun part about planning your wedding?

I think the most fun part was deciding on all of the little details. We love all of our vendors and felt so happy with the decisions made early on with vendors. We loved sitting down and deciding on details and picturing how those details would play out on the day of the wedding. Taking our engagement photos and attending planning meetings with the venue would definitely be our favorite parts of wedding planning. We had so much fun speaking with Jill and her husband at our engagement shoot in Cape May where we love to vacation, and it was also so fun to sit down with Heather from Rock Island Lake Club to discuss all the smaller, but important details which go into the day of the wedding!

Any tips for future brides? NJ WEDDING Photographer

First and foremost, remain present during the days leading up to, and on the day of your wedding. This is a time to be with your significant other, cherish it and be present in that moment because it goes by so quickly! As a therapist, I am constantly educating patients and their families on the significance of remaining in the moment and remaining present. This is so important on your wedding day because there is so much going on and sometimes I feel that couples forget to take some time to just be together and laugh together. NJ Wedding Photographer

Another tip is make sure you eat! So many guests came up to us at our reception and told us how much they loved our food and cocktail hour food. Have a family member, helpful guest, or venue staff member put together a small plate of various cocktail hour horderves to hold you over until the reception! Though it’s really not a big deal, you want to be able to enjoy the food on the day of your wedding! NJ Wedding Photographer
